Fashion is a game and dressing up is a joy…or at least it should be.
Unfortunately, for many of us, fashion is a complicated matter. We often stand in front of the wardrobe like a hard Y and we simply don't feel comfortable in any of the five outfits we try on. We spend many days in clothes in which we are not ourselves. Instead of creativity, playfulness and joy, we often feel more frustration. Fortunately, this can be changed quite easily.
This article was originally supposed to be about how to build a minimalist (aka capsule) wardrobe, because it personally helped me a lot with the above-mentioned situations that I encountered practically on a daily basis. But then I ran out of one thing. It's not so much about whether your wardrobe is minimalistic, capsule, functional, chic or poppy... the most important thing is that it brings you JOY! Every day, in every situation. The ideal wardrobe is a happy wardrobe.
Just make a few changes and chaos, ruin and low self-esteem will quickly be replaced by joy, ease and (healthy) confidence. And that is not to be thrown away, given that clothes are an integral part of our everyday life.
How to achieve joy in your wardrobe?
Below you will find 5 key characteristics with an explanation of how they bring joy to your wardrobe. Try to follow them when sorting and shopping. For each piece, focus on the given characteristics. You will see that it will significantly facilitate your decision making.
Simplicity
Simple pieces (eg white t-shirt, classic blue jeans) are easy to combine and create outfits. It saves you time and energy. You always have something to do with them. And that's a joy!
Locality
When you know who made the product and how, you automatically feel good about it. The energy that was put into it during production is transferred to us with the clothes. I am attaching a quote for a better explanation:
"There is no joy in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness." (Even in the most beautiful piece there is no joy if it is caused by hunger and unhappiness).
Timelessness
Timeless pieces work in many situations and over many years. They are loyal companions that will never let you down. Wearing the same great-fitting trench coat four seasons in a row isn't boring, it's the joy of what a treasure you have in your closet.
Quality
Buying a quality piece is an expression of self-love and self-worth. Each of us deserves quality clothes. Wearing quality pieces brings inner joy from the fact that we like and take care of ourselves.
Material
Organic, healthy materials allow us to feel comfortable. Soft organic cotton, cool linen, warm and soft merino wool... joy on the skin = joy in the soul.
If you are just waiting for spring cleaning of your wardrobe, try to take the above-mentioned tips into account. If it's already behind you, remember them when buying new clothes. And then just rejoice!
